My 35-year old single daughter is a pilates instructor - she just got the new price for her insurance premium, which covers NOTHING. It's $850/month. That's what we mean by "affordability crisis" - and that fact that the pace of inflation has been reduced doesn't fix a financial blow like that.

Hi there: As a Wyoming Rancher that raises cattle, I would like everyone to know that the high cost of beef at the grocery store is not the fault of Trump nor of inflation. Because of different factors, ranchers have had to sell cattle so it is a supply and demand problem. There are fewer cattle in this country than before. Governments in other countries do not subscribe to some of the same health standards that our government does so importation is not altogether the solution either. Love your program.

I’m all in on the requirement to win the race, but I’d prefer we not drive massive civil unrest along the way… you are smarter/more capable than is currently being displayed

on the price discussion, what's missing and which I think all on the pod know but seem purposely not want to comment on is the difference between price level and price inflation; this is econ 101. Prices for almost all goods are up (not all, some), but rising at a slower pace. "lowering prices" means deflation, and that hasn't occured except in a few commodities.

It's my crossword puzzle for the week. What Michael Dell and his wife did this week was truly a brilliant thing to do. He went from a Robber Baron to a hero in 5 minutes. I suggest others consider a similar endeavor once they reach max wealth. You live in a country that gave you the privilege to succeed. Let's mobilize the kids for a change. It would change AI's image immediately.

Regarding DUV, the fully domestic "DUVi" fabs are coming online in 2026 this will enable 5nm and possibly 3nm in time. There is massive capacity coming online in 2026... Now regarding stealing EUV technology, the guy who lead light source research is a Chinese man - he was the lead scientist. If he decided to go home and work on it then good for him, thats not stealing. ASML imported a Chinese man to head light source research because he was the best person for the job - in essence you could say they stole him from China.

All-In perpetuates that concern with consistently framing through the scope of "winners and losers" For the audience, I think you all would do well to invite a guest host whose a sensible unbiased AI expert - Geoffrey Hinton (noble prize winner for AI contributions). He is warning against rapid, de-regulated, careless AI advancement at the hands of y'all & your cronies, for the purpose of capitalistic profits. There's no stopping AI now it's going to happen either way. I hope there are some sensible people at the top that do regulate/safeguard it for the benefit of the common good. This is an important and thoughtful discussion, and it’s also worth acknowledging the context it’s happening in—among people with significant wealth, influence, and insulation from downside. Most regular, middle-class people aren’t confused about AI or hostile to progress. They already live with automation, metrics, algorithms, and constant pressure to be more productive. They understand exactly what AI can do. What separates their experience from elite optimism isn’t awareness—it’s exposure. For the middle class, AI doesn’t show up as leverage or optional experimentation. It shows up as compressed timelines, higher expectations, and fewer buffers to absorb mistakes. Retraining takes unpaid time. Job transitions carry real risk. A misstep isn’t theoretical—it affects healthcare, housing, and family stability. When conversations focus on efficiency and long-term gains without addressing time, predictability, and shared downside, they miss how change is actually experienced by most people. Progress feels real to the public when it creates breathing room, not just faster cycles. That gap—between understanding AI and being insulated from its consequences—is what much of the middle class is paying attention to.

I'm in China and noticed that there was an AI Championship competition hosted at my hotel, drawing on people around the country to demonstrate their skills by solving real chinese infrastructure problems using AI. The best team gets nationally honored and naturally can get a job anywhere. So smart and I don't know if anything like that is happening in the U.S. I'm so impressed by China at every level. As far as I'm concerned they have already left America in the dust: * Around cohesive national projects. * Around long-term vision. * Around power generation. * Around electric cars. * Around electric motorbikes - complete silence on very well-maintained streets with 50% of people using them. * Around hard-work and education. * Around population. * Around architecture. * Around hospitality - I've met some great people who refuse a tip and help me more than I'm helped in the U.S. I think China is the best thing to ever happen to America: We will never catch up to China but it might get us off our asses or at least recognizing how stupid a government is that slows down innovation and growth at every turn. I never could get my house built in San Francisco so now I'm overseas and loving what I'm seeing.

Pointing out that the US' approach is more of resolution through regulation. This interpretation explains the Vanguard findings and adds a sociocultural layer of nuance. Finally, someone with integrity speaks the truth. The American people need overall security. We are concerned about jobs, housing, food, and quality of life. This is not something that’s going to happen in the future. It’s happening now and action needs to be implemented immediately. Let me say this again this is not sometime in the future. It is now

I think the bigger problem with the data centers is they are not talking to the people in the area they're hiding things they're rejecting things they're not open with everybody in many city council townships Etc sneak votes through without letting people know they're coming up

  • @Mary-d7h7qcommonsense Jan 26, 2026

FYI: if you use AI to google if AI data centers use huge amounts of water away from municipalities etc. answers on top searches are YES for cooling the enormous amounts of heat .

41:44 - I have not noticed grocery prices going up except for certain meats. Most everything else has either remained steady or gone down (goldfish snacks has gone down by $4 per large carton & eggs have also come down, same w/ most of the groceries I buy weekly

  • @kathyhegberg7378 Jan 13, 2026

As a person who has worked with children, families, and educators all of my life (a long time!) the best thing the tech industry can do to address fear about job loss is to provide guidance on what skills kids need to have to work in America as tech evolves. Same for parents and adults who will need different jobs, and for education on what needs to shift to prepare all of us.

    Great discussion episode

  • @aldyendonnelly1033 Dec 26, 2025

~11.00 Kind of weird for Chalamath to go on about the railway tech breakthrough in the later 1800s as if it is a positive precedent. The "Panics" of 1873 and 1893--sometimes called the "Long Depression"--resulted in 20+% sustained unemployment rates, huge bank runs, a monetary crisis and bank bailouts. I doubt that Chamath intended to communicate that we should expect the AI era to play out similarly.

  • @regmcguire5582 Dec 26, 2025

"The American People" from Jason is really something. What American people, does he know these people....

  • @stefanobarbieri5912 Dec 26, 2025

For D.Friedberg, the 3/3/3 target as secretary Bessent presented it, included not inflation (set by Fed at2%) but growth of 3 million oil barrel equivalent per day.

  • @bonosmith1113 Dec 26, 2025

Amuse bouche. Pamplemousse sorbet. My dog died. 😂😂😂 that actually made me cackle laugh.
